Prompt It! retains settings and working text locally and sends action requests to OpenAI. Local storage is separate from data received by the website operator.
Local settings and content
The extension stores your API key, promptlet definitions and configuration in your browser. Studio also saves its input and output locally so that you can return to them. Appearance and layout preferences are retained locally.
Studio’s Clear control empties both saved text panes. An in-memory undo copy remains in the open Studio page until it is discarded or the page closes. Clearing text leaves settings and promptlets intact; it does not erase OpenAI requests or guarantee secure deletion. See Local persistence and clearing data.
Execution state and local diagnostics
The extension uses temporary working state while running actions. Pending selected text and its promptlet can also be written to persistent browser storage so the side panel can pick up the request. That entry is removed when consumed through the side panel’s storage recovery path; it should not be assumed to disappear immediately after every action.
The browser service worker coordinates extension events and API requests on your device. It is not an operator-hosted server. Local warning and error logs may include diagnostic information. More verbose logging can include request content; review logs before sharing them.
Requests to OpenAI
When you run an action, the extension sends the text being processed, the promptlet’s instructions, applicable system instructions and relevant request configuration, including the model and output limit, to OpenAI over HTTPS. Your API key is sent to OpenAI to authenticate the request.
OpenAI processes these requests under its applicable policies and your API account settings. This website does not promise zero retention by OpenAI. See OpenAI’s API data controls.
Operator processing
In the published 0.6.1 extension, action content and API credentials are sent directly to OpenAI, not through a Prompt It! server. The extension loads its import-validation schemas from its own installed files. Links to this website and other external pages make ordinary browser visits when opened.
Website hosting
The website source contains no analytics, tracking scripts or application cookies. Website delivery can still involve operational processing by hosting and security providers.
Support email
Contacting info@promptitapp.com sends the information you deliberately include, along with your email address and message details, to the support mailbox. Do not send your API key; remove private content from screenshots and logs.
